Oiled Wildlife Recovery

Bill Dwyer is very passionate about Oiled Wildlife Recovery, he is a member of the Oiled Wildlife Recovery team at Massey University in Palmerston North.  Bill was instrumental in designing and manufacturing a mobile surgery.  This surgery is furbished in a shipping container and can be easily transported to the location of an oil spill, when required.  Bill is able to advise oiled wildlife specialists on how to use this equipment and how to set up a site to use it in.  Site management can prove challenging as the surgery requires water, electricity and an ecologically safe method of dealing with waste.  His skills, knowledge and expertise complements and supports the important work that wildlife specialists can achieve in saving bird life, marine life and mammals during an oil spill.

 RENA OIL SPILL

Since the beginning of October Bill has been up in Tauranga running the on site set-up for the Wildlife Recovery operation after the devastating Rena oil spill.  Dale our foreman and building apprentice Cody also spent numerous weeks in Tauranga building most of what you see in the photos below.   Very appropriately the site has been nicknamed ‘DWYERville’
